The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of a popular ice cream product sold at stores such as Target and Wegmans due to an undeclared allergen.
The Mochi Ice Cream Company is recalling 1,350 cases of its Peach Mango Sorbet, which may contain pasteurized cooked egg white, an ingredient not listed on the packaging. This poses a risk to individuals with egg allergies or sensitivities, potentially leading to serious or life-threatening allergic reactions.
The affected product is sold under the My Mochi brand, with Peach Mango flavor in an orange six-count box weighing 7.5 ounces. The product is located in the freezer section, and consumers can identify it by the lot numbers 337-24 and 341-24, which are printed on the box.
The recall follows two reports of minor allergic reactions. The issue was discovered after it was found that the sorbet containing egg white was distributed in packaging that failed to indicate the presence of the allergen. The FDA stated that the incident resulted from a temporary breakdown in the company’s packaging processes.
Consumers who have purchased the affected My Mochi Peach Mango Sorbet are advised to return it to the store for a full refund.
