A new business, La Michoacana Azteca, is set to open in downtown La Grange this March, offering a refreshing addition just ahead of the summer season. The Mexican-style ice cream shop will feature fresh, fruit-based products, with a focus on ice cream and several flavors of frozen yogurt. In addition, customers can enjoy a selection of sandwiches and fresh juices, according to manager Joshua Gutierrez.
Owner Jose Ayala, who operates additional locations in the Chicago area and California, expressed his excitement about opening the new store in La Grange. “I am excited about coming to La Grange because it’s a nice town, and there’s nothing else like it there,” Ayala said.
La Michoacana Azteca, located at 15 S. La Grange Road, received its building permit on January 2, valid through July 2. Signs in the window already indicate the store’s impending opening.
Kristina Joseph, administrator of the popular La Grange Social & Around Town Facebook page, which has over 10,000 members, believes the arrival of La Michoacana Azteca will be a positive addition to the community. “I’m thrilled to welcome La Michoacana to our community,” she said. “Their arrival marks a positive step towards growth and opportunity in La Grange.”
While another La Michoacana location previously operated in Countryside, Gutierrez clarified that the La Grange shop is distinct, with different ownership and offerings.
Neighboring Countryside resident Berenice Kahoun also expressed her excitement about the new business. “We love La Michoacona,” she said. “We truly are fans of the concept and will be sure to visit regularly. The pedestrian traffic in La Grange will definitely help the new location.”
With its opening, La Michoacana Azteca is expected to bring a refreshing experience to La Grange just in time for warmer weather, while offering a unique culinary concept to the area.
