STATELINE, Nev. — Castle Rock Creamery, an artisanal ice cream shop, has officially transitioned from a mobile ice cream truck to a permanent storefront at 290 Kingsbury Grade Road in Stateline. While the creamery is not a brand-new venture, it has quickly made a name for itself since its debut this summer, offering a diverse array of small-batch, handmade ice cream.
Chef and owner Josh Fisher, along with his wife Amy Weeks, aim to create a unique ice cream experience that blends traditional and innovative flavors. “We want to keep the classics—Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry—but we also enjoy creating fun, creative flavors,” said Fisher. In addition to the standard offerings, the shop features a variety of non-dairy options, such as Coffee Crunch, Black Sesame, Ginger and Fig, and Apple Cider Sherbet, which incorporates apples sourced from local growers at Apple Hill in El Camino.
Unlike many other ice cream parlors that offer a single non-dairy option, Castle Rock Creamery prides itself on offering a full range of dairy-free flavors. Fisher emphasizes the quality of these choices, saying, “We’re not just doing vanilla.”
For those looking for something special, the shop also serves affogato, with the Salted Caramel White Russian being a customer favorite.
Castle Rock Creamery initially launched as an ice cream truck, visiting various events throughout the Tahoe Basin, including weddings, farmer’s markets, and Food Truck Fridays in Reno. Due to the truck’s sensitivity to freezing temperatures, it has been parked for the winter, but Fisher plans to resume its use in the spring.
Fisher, a culinary school graduate, discovered his passion for ice cream early in his career and found inspiration in its creative possibilities. After living in Chicago, New York City, and Colorado, he and his wife have decided to settle in Tahoe, where they are committed to growing their business.
“We love it here, and we’re excited to see how far we can take Castle Rock Creamery,” Fisher said. “We plan to continue developing the storefront and using the trailer to expand our reach.”
