A new ice cream flavor at Sweet Jenny’s in Williamsville is helping to raise awareness and funds for a cause close to home.
Created by eighth-grader Hannah Koepsell, the flavor is named “Hannah Strong” in honor of her ongoing battle with leukemia. The special blend, which features vanilla ice cream mixed with M&Ms and rainbow sprinkles—Hannah’s personal favorites—is now available at the local shop, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting The Courage of Carly Fund.
“This battle has been going on for a number of years, but Hannah is incredibly strong,” said her father, Jason Koepsell. “This flavor is not just about ice cream; it’s about giving back and supporting others going through similar struggles.”
Hannah, who has long enjoyed vanilla ice cream, explained that M&Ms and sprinkles are her go-to toppings. “It’s always been M&Ms or rainbow sprinkles for me,” she said.
The Courage of Carly Fund provides essential support for children facing cancer, helping to fund events and provide resources. Hannah, who has participated in many of the fund’s activities, said, “It feels really good to be part of something so important.”
Her father is proud of her selflessness. “She has one of the biggest hearts of anybody I’ve ever met,” Jason said. “No matter what she’s going through, she’s always looking to give back and help others.”
Sweet Jenny’s owner, Howard Cadmus, said the fundraiser resonates personally. “This hits close to home for me because I have a son about the same age as Hannah,” Cadmus explained. “Seeing how she’s handled everything with such grace and courage is truly extraordinary.”
For every scoop of Hannah Strong sold, part of the proceeds will go toward supporting children battling cancer. The limited-edition ice cream will be available at Sweet Jenny’s until the end of February.
“She’s full of life,” Jason Koepsell added. “When people try her ice cream, we hope they feel a little bit of her strength and courage.”
