A central Pennsylvania-based dessert company, renowned for its oversized, gooey cookies, is embarking on a new chapter of sweet indulgence. Taylor Chip, founded by Sara and Doug Taylor, has launched an ice cream line at their new York location, thanks in part to a $3.5 million state grant received earlier this year to support the expansion of their manufacturing operation.
The new Taylor Chip store, which opened this past weekend, introduces 15 innovative ice cream flavors, including unique options like PB&J, S’mores, Tart Berry Crumble, and Sweet Potato Casserole. Alongside the ice cream, customers can also enjoy a selection of coffee and tea.
Sara Taylor, the company’s Chief Operating Officer and co-founder, expressed her gratitude for the support from local patrons: “Just to have the support from locals is everything to us.”
In a nod to the company’s signature cookies, each ice cream flavor is mixed with chunks of Taylor Chip cookies. Everything is made in-house, including the toppings and extras, with an emphasis on using only natural ingredients—there are no high-fructose corn syrup or seed oils in any of the products.
Doug Taylor, CEO and co-founder, shared insights into the challenging yet rewarding process: “Dairy manufacturing is more stringent than pharmaceutical manufacturing. It’s taken us five years to get to this point because we didn’t want to use someone else’s base. We wanted to do everything from scratch.”
Building the creamery required significant preparation, from perfecting the ice cream base to identifying a manufacturer to assist while their facility was under construction.
Located at 3013 E. Market St. in York, the new store is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., except on Sundays. The Taylors also have plans to further expand their offerings, combining their iconic cookies with new sweet treat creations.
