BAY CITY, MI — Michigan Cream & Sugar Ice Cream Co., a beloved local business with roots in Bay City, is set to expand into the neighboring city of Saginaw.
Tim Mangan, manager of the ice cream company, expressed excitement about the new venture. “We’ve put a lot of work into the new building, and we’re excited to open in Saginaw,” Mangan said.
The new location at 122 S. Hamilton in Saginaw’s Old Town business district will begin serving customers on March 18, while the original Bay City shop at 160 Uptown Drive will open one week earlier, on March 11.
While the Saginaw expansion was originally slated to open last summer, Mangan explained that the project took longer than expected due to the challenges of moving into a historic building.
Known for its ice cream made from locally sourced ingredients, Michigan Cream & Sugar is also celebrated for its freshly made bubble waffle cones. Some popular flavors, such as Bay City Brown ‘E,’ Michigan Sugar Cookie, and Uptown Funk, are named after local landmarks in Bay County.
To mark the Saginaw location’s debut, a new flavor inspired by the city will be offered: Old Town Detour. This flavor is a twist on the traditional Rocky Road, featuring rich chocolate custard, house-made marshmallows, and toasted almonds.
