Natalia Butler, a Flavor Guru at Ben & Jerry’s, shared the challenge of packing all the sundae elements into a pint while maintaining ease of consumption. “It was hard to try to envision how we could put in all the components of a sundae and make it super convenient for our fans,” Butler explained.
The team focused on iconic sundae toppings, like rich swirls and crunchy chunks, to bring these pints to life. The result? Four delicious new Sundae flavors: Cookie Vermont-ster Sundae, Dulce-Delish Sundae, Choco-latta Cheesecake Sundae, and Turtle Sundae.
Cookie Vermont-ster Sundae: Described as a blend of classic vanilla ice cream with chocolate chip and chocolate chocolate chip cookies, topped with vanilla whipped topping, fudge swirls, and fudge chips, this pint presented an intriguing combination. However, while the addition of chocolate chip cookies was appreciated, the cookies’ saltiness slightly overpowered the other components, such as the more delicate whipped topping and vanilla ice cream. Though the fudge swirl was a highlight, this flavor ultimately felt the most basic of the four.
Turtle Sundae: A mix of buttery ice cream, fudge-covered almonds, pretzel swirls, vanilla whipped topping, caramel swirls, and fudge-covered pretzel pieces, the Turtle Sundae offered a sweet yet salty contrast, inspired by the popular popcorn salad trend on TikTok. The buttery ice cream provided a creamy base for the crunchy toppings, balancing sweetness with a dark chocolate finish. While enjoyable, the flavor might be too rich for those who prefer a less sugary treat.
Choco-lotta Cheesecake: Sundae This flavor features chocolate cheesecake ice cream paired with chocolate cookies, chocolate chocolate cookie swirls, vanilla whipped topping, fudge swirls, and sea salt fudge chunks. For those who appreciate the tartness of cheesecake, this flavor strikes a balance between the bold chocolate taste and the subtle cheesecake notes.
