In disappointing news for ice cream lovers across Massachusetts, Bertie’s Creative Creamery, a beloved old-fashioned ice cream shop, has permanently closed its doors after a decade of serving up homemade treats. The closure affects both of the creamery’s locations in Milford and Westwood, with the decision attributed to the impending retirement of long-time manager Jim Collins.
According to a Facebook post shared last week, Collins announced the closure after careful deliberation, citing his decision to step back from the business and enter retirement. The post was later confirmed by owner Stephen Ward, who explained that his other business commitments prevented him from dedicating the necessary time to continue running the ice cream shops effectively.
Bertie’s Creative Creamery was known for its delicious handmade ice cream, in addition to offering soft-serve, sherbet, and frozen yogurt. While the Westwood location was seasonal, the Milford store remained open year-round, offering a variety of ice cream flavors that made it a local favorite.
The closure marks the end of a cherished local institution for many, and while the news is sad, fans of Bertie’s are left with fond memories of the many years the shops operated. The community now wishes the staff well, hoping that all employees find success in their future endeavors.
Bertie’s Creative Creamery will certainly be missed, but its legacy will live on in the hearts of those who enjoyed its treats.
