The Bliss dessert station at The Gallery dining hall in Snyder Phillips has seen a surge in popularity, thanks to the recent introduction of hard scoop ice cream. This addition has sparked long lines, with students flocking to enjoy the new treat. But that’s just the beginning of the dining hall’s expansion. Starting this weekend, The Gallery will unveil two exciting new stations: a waffle bar and an omelet bar, adding to the ongoing upgrades at The Gallery and The Vista at Shaw Hall.
The hard scoop ice cream, which launched on February 3, is a fresh addition to The Gallery’s dessert offerings. The station features rotating flavors, with the added bonus of sorbet, providing a dairy-free option for students. Soft serve ice cream remains available, while a new topping station has been introduced at The Vista at Shaw Hall next to the soft serve machine.
Preston White, a packaging sophomore who works at the new ice cream station, emphasized the significance of the addition, declaring that it solidifies The Gallery’s reputation as the top dining hall on campus.
However, Susie Burke, the complex dining manager for River Trail Neighborhood dining, noted that the ice cream station may be temporarily closed if staffing is an issue and no scooper is available.
With the ice cream station already a hit, The Gallery is set to roll out additional dining experiences this weekend. On Saturday, February 15, a made-to-order omelet station will open, allowing students to customize their omelets with a variety of proteins and vegetables, as well as the option to use only egg whites. This station will be available on Saturdays for both breakfast and lunch.
The following day, Sunday, February 16, will see the debut of the waffle bar. Students can enjoy house-made waffles with an array of toppings, including different syrups and whipped cream, at the topping bar.
Another recent upgrade to The Gallery includes the return of the sandwich station to pre-COVID-19 hours, now open daily for lunch and dinner. Graciela Saborio, a third-year elementary education student who works at the station, praised the station’s variety, noting the wide selection of meats, cheeses, and vegetables. The station operates on demand, allowing customers to build their own sandwiches much like a Subway-style experience.
As a vegetarian, Saborio highlighted the diverse options available, including barbecue jackfruit and vegan cheese.
Additionally, The Vista at Shaw Hall recently opened a deli station, which is starting with limited options but will expand its offerings in the coming weeks. A unique feature at The Vista’s deli is the option to have sandwiches heated on the grill, rather than in the typical conveyor oven.
These new additions reflect MSU’s ongoing efforts to enhance the dining experience, offering students a wider range of choices to suit their preferences.
