WEST CHESTER, OH – A cherished staple of West Chester, The Cone ice cream shop, has officially passed into new hands, ensuring its beloved legacy will continue to serve the community for years to come. The iconic establishment, known for its distinctive ice-cream-cone-shaped building, will now be owned and operated by Mike and Beth Heydt.
The transition comes after an announcement last September by the founding Wren family, who revealed their decision to retire after half a century of running the beloved shop. In a statement shared via social media, the Wrens expressed their confidence in the Heydts, praising them as the ideal candidates to maintain the shop’s traditions, recipes, and community spirit.
“We are thrilled to announce that we will be the new owners of The Cone in West Chester!” the Heydts wrote in a message posted on the shop’s Facebook page. The couple, who have deep ties to the community, reflected on their fond memories of visiting The Cone during the 1990s and continuing to frequent the shop after returning to the area. They emphasized their commitment to keeping The Cone’s cherished menu intact, including favorites like the classic orange and vanilla swirl.
The Wrens are entrusting the Heydts with continuing the shop’s long-standing role as a community hub, and Keith Wren, one of the original founders, will remain involved in the business by overseeing operations of the Mobile Cone and Hawaiian Five-OH Shave Ice units, as well as managing the Hawaiian Five-OH flavor company.
As the torch passes, both the Wrens and the Heydts expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the support The Cone has garnered over the years. The Wrens reflected on how the shop has become a place for family memories and community bonding, and the Heydts echoed this sentiment, vowing to uphold its legacy.
