Baked Bear, the popular ice cream sandwich chain, is set to open its latest location in Westfield, New Jersey, bringing its signature sweet treats to a vibrant stretch of the downtown area. The new shop will be located at 18 Elm Street, in a space once home to a gourmet Cinnabon store, and is expected to open by the end of February, though an official date has yet to be confirmed.
Founded in 2012 by childhood friends Rob Robbins and Shane Stanger, Baked Bear has quickly become a beloved brand known for its customizable ice cream sandwiches. After leaving their respective careers, the duo launched their first store in San Diego in May 2013, inspired by Rob’s favorite childhood dessert—ice cream sandwiches.
At Baked Bear, customers can create their own perfect ice cream sandwich by selecting from a variety of cookies or brownies for the outer layers and choosing from an extensive selection of ice cream flavors for the filling. Popular cookie options include Nutella chocolate chunk with sea salt, along with gluten-free varieties. Ice cream flavors range from blackberry crumble to toasted s’mores and butter brittle cake, offering a diverse range of tastes.
The Westfield location marks Baked Bear’s first foray into Northern New Jersey, following successful openings in Asbury Park and Long Branch. Plans are also in place for an expansion to New Brunswick later this year.
