Pleasant Hill Creamery, a beloved American restaurant and ice cream shop, has closed its doors indefinitely after eight years of operation. The closure was announced by owner Dan Bucher, who expressed uncertainty about whether the closure would be permanent. Bucher cited the rising costs of supplies as a primary factor in the difficult decision to halt operations.
“Food costs are outrageous. It’s every week that something is going up,” Bucher remarked. “It’s getting tougher and tougher, especially for small businesses.” The cost of ingredients, particularly ice cream, has nearly doubled since 2017, further impacting the business’s bottom line.
In addition to rising supply costs, poor weather conditions have added another layer of difficulty. The Pleasant Hill location at 1504 MO-7 has had to close multiple times in the past month due to ice, snow, and extreme temperatures, further straining the restaurant’s ability to remain open.
Despite these challenges, Bucher emphasized that, while the future of the business remains uncertain, he believes closing for now is the right course of action.
