LE MARS, Iowa (KCAU) — The Wells Visitor Center & Ice Cream Parlor in Le Mars is preparing to celebrate a significant milestone: 25 years of service to the community.
Since its opening on March 6, 2000, the Wells Visitor Center has played a key role in earning Le Mars the title of “Ice Cream Capital of the World.” Originally located along Highway 75, the center moved to its current spot in downtown Le Mars in 2011. In 2019, the facility underwent a major renovation, which included the addition of a movie theater, an outdoor patio, and an event room, further enhancing its role as a community gathering place.
The center remains a cornerstone of Le Mars, attracting roughly 200,000 visitors annually and serving as a popular destination for ice cream lovers. In 2024 alone, the center sold 69,000 waffle cones of Blue Bunny ice cream.
Le Mars Mayor Rob Bixenman praised the Wells Visitor Center for its vital contribution to the local economy and tourism efforts.
“As a major attraction, it draws ice cream enthusiasts from around the world, benefiting local businesses and fostering a sense of community,” Bixenman said in a statement. “It not only preserves Le Mars’ identity as the Ice Cream Capital of the World but also promotes our rich dairy heritage through events and celebrations that unite people.”
Adam Baumgartner, Vice President of Institutional Affairs and Corporate Communications at Wells, expressed his gratitude for the continued support of the Le Mars community.

To kick off the 25th anniversary celebration, the center will offer cones and bowls of ice cream at the original opening-day prices on March 6, 2025. The festivities will continue over the following 25 weeks, featuring new menu items, throwback specials, discounts, and giveaways.
This celebration marks a quarter-century of sweet success and community connection for the Wells Visitor Center & Ice Cream Parlor.
