After closing in late 2024, Blu Boy Chocolate Shop has reopened just in time for Valentine’s Day under a new name, Kirkwood Sweet Shop. New owner Linda Armes, who also runs Olive Leaf and Bloomington Chocolate Company, is revitalizing the iconic space with a fresh concept, while paying homage to its legacy.
The shop’s new name harkens back to its original identity as the Indiana Sweet Shop, once located next to the Indiana Theater. Though currently operating at a limited capacity, Armes plans to fully open the shop within two weeks, including the addition of an espresso barista and a baker to help craft an array of sweet treats.
Kirkwood Sweet Shop will feature several new attractions, including a “build-your-own brownie bar” and a cheesecake bar. These offerings, which Armes previously introduced as special events at Olive Leaf, will now be available daily at the new location. The brownie bar will feature various frostings, such as peanut butter, chocolate, and vanilla, with an array of toppings like mini M&Ms, Reece’s pieces, and pecans. The cheesecake bar will offer a classic New York-style base, complemented by fruit sauces, pecans, and caramel drizzle.
In addition to the new bars, the shop will offer a selection of truffles, fudge, and sweet treat mixes. Armes also intends to bring back popular items from the Blu Boy Chocolate Shop, including European-style truffles with unique floral and dark flavors, alongside some of Blu Boy’s best-selling chocolate bars.
As a nod to her other business, Olive Leaf, the sweet shop will also feature a selection of olive oils and balsamic vinegars. The store is currently open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, with extended weekend hours anticipated.
Located at 112 E. Kirkwood Ave., Kirkwood Sweet Shop offers a mix of fresh treats and nostalgic flavors, promising to become a beloved local destination once again.
