POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — While summer may still be a couple of months away, the spirit of the season has already arrived at Salty’s Inlet Ice Cream, where the windows of the shop have been transformed into an art gallery.
Salty’s owner, Steph Salardino, decided to utilize the closed shop’s storefront space to offer something unique during the winter months. Instead of letting the windows sit empty, she reached out to local photographer Kate Watt to showcase her stunning drone images of the beach.
“We’re still closed for the winter, but I wanted to do something positive with the space,” Salardino said. “I contacted Kate, who has an incredible collection of beach photos, and asked if she’d be interested in displaying her work in our windows.”
Watt, who has captured breathtaking aerial views of the area, was thrilled by the idea. “It’s a true honor to display my work in such a popular location, knowing it will be appreciated,” she said.
This collaboration is the latest in a series of projects that have allowed both Salty’s Ice Cream and Watt’s photography to gain exposure. Watt, who has been taking photos since high school, noted that the recognition she’s received in recent years is a milestone in her career as a professional photographer.
“Being able to see my work displayed at that scale was incredible,” Watt said. “It’s something I’ve always dreamed of as an artist, and it’s rewarding to have my photography recognized.”
Watt’s photos and videos can be found on her Instagram, where she continues to share her passion for capturing the beauty of the coast.
Salardino mentioned that the display might become an annual winter tradition for the shop, with new artists featured each year, provided there is enough interest from the community.
As for Watt, she expressed deep gratitude for the support she has received. “I’m very thankful for Salty’s for believing in me and to everyone who’s supported my work,” she said.
