Cheshire Farm is recalling batches of two popular ice cream flavors due to the presence of hazelnuts, which are not listed on the product labels. The recall involves the Caramelized Biscuit Ice Cream and Biscoff Ice Cream, posing a potential health risk to individuals with nut allergies, according to the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
The recall affects only one-liter tubs of the ice creams, spanning three different batch codes. The affected products include the Caramelized Biscuit Ice Cream with batch code L24150 and a best-before date of November 29, 2025. The Biscoff Ice Cream is also recalled under batch codes 23139 and L23261, with best-before dates of November 19, 2024, and March 18, 2025, respectively.
The FSA has advised customers who have purchased the affected ice creams and have nut allergies to avoid consumption. Affected customers should return the products to the store for a full refund.
Cheshire Farm has taken steps to inform allergy support organizations about the recall and issued notices to retailers explaining the issue. Despite the name “Biscoff” appearing on the label, the ice creams are not associated with the Lotus Biscoff brand and do not contain any Biscoff products.
Tree nut allergies are a growing concern in the UK, with Allergy UK estimating that around 2% of children and 0.5% of adults are affected. Those with peanut allergies are at a higher risk of developing a tree nut allergy, with estimates ranging from 30% to 40%. Allergic reactions can vary in severity, with the most severe cases leading to anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening condition.
Cheshire Farm, which was founded in 1984 by Tom and Margaret Fell, produces a wide variety of dairy and non-dairy ice creams. The farm, which also operates a popular visitor attraction in Chester, is known for its award-winning ice cream products.
