LEMBEKE, BELGIUM – Lotus Bakeries Corp. has expanded its recent licensing partnership with Mondelez International to include Froneri International, a UK-based global ice cream manufacturer. This strategic move, announced this week, aims to accelerate the growth of Lotus Biscoff in the ice cream sector.
Lotus Bakeries, headquartered in Belgium, revealed plans for Froneri to begin producing, marketing, and selling Biscoff ice cream across several European countries in 2026. The partnership will gradually extend to other international markets in the following years.
Biscoff ice cream made its global debut in 2019 and has gained considerable popularity, particularly in the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe. The product’s success is attributed to the appealing combination of crunchy Lotus Biscoff cookie pieces, smooth Biscoff spread, and fresh cream.
To further capitalize on this high-growth category, Lotus Bakeries seeks to expand its ice cream offerings worldwide. By leveraging Froneri’s extensive expertise in product development, market insights, and manufacturing efficiencies, the collaboration will facilitate deeper market penetration and bolster the Biscoff brand globally.
“Partnering with Froneri will unlock new opportunities for Biscoff, allowing us to leverage their extensive expertise in product development and industry-leading knowledge,” said Jan Boone, CEO of Lotus Bakeries. “This collaboration will strengthen our position in the ice cream sector, enabling Biscoff to grow into a global ice cream brand. Additionally, introducing the Biscoff taste to ice cream consumers worldwide will enhance our brand awareness and allow us to focus on expanding our Biscoff cookies and spreads globally.”
The partnership with Froneri is part of a broader agreement with Mondelez International, which was first announced in June 2024. Under this arrangement, Lotus Bakeries and Mondelez plan to expand the Lotus Biscoff cookie brand in India and create new chocolate products that combine Biscoff’s caramelized flavor with Mondelez’s iconic chocolate brands, such as Cadbury and Milka. The first co-branded products are expected to launch in early 2025, starting in the United Kingdom and Europe.
With an estimated 2024 revenue of €1.23 billion ($1.34 billion), Lotus Bakeries operates production facilities in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, South Africa, and the United States. A third production plant currently under construction in Thailand is expected to begin operations by 2026. Lotus Bakeries’ brand portfolio includes Lotus, Biscoff, Nakd, Trek, Bear, Kiddylicious, Peter’s Yard, Dinosaurus, Peijnenburg, and Annas.
