Betty Rae’s Ice Cream, a popular Kansas City-based chain, is expanding its reach with a strategic move into new cities following the success of its first franchised location in Omaha. The company is now setting its sights on St. Louis, Nashville, Denver, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Wichita, Kansas, and Bentonville, Arkansas as the next stops in its franchise growth.
Matt Shatto, who acquired Betty Rae’s in 2023, is spearheading the expansion. Under his leadership, the brand has grown from two to five locations in the Kansas City area. Shatto, along with his mother, also owns Shatto Milk Company, a family-run dairy farm that has been in operation for over 80 years. The farm began processing milk in 2023 and continues to bottle it for customers. Betty Rae’s operates its own commissary and production facility, where it creates premium ice cream flavors and their ingredients.
The company is actively seeking franchise partners to open two to five locations, each ranging from 1,000 to 2,700 square feet. Shatto emphasized that the cities selected for expansion are a direct result of customer feedback and requests. We want to share Betty Rae’s world-class ice cream with those who want it first and foremost,” Shatto told FastCasual. “We are extremely excited to bring Kansas City’s best ice cream to more people across the country.”
Betty Rae’s menu features 26 core ice cream flavors, rotating monthly creations, and a variety of treats including waffle cones, ice cream sandwiches, sundaes, boozy shakes, ice cream flights, and vegan and gluten-free options. The store also offers hand-packed pints, quarts, and gallons for customers to take home.
With its upcoming franchise openings, Betty Rae’s aims to bring its beloved ice cream to even more communities across the U.S.
