Seemingly Overzealous, the popular locally-owned ice cream shop known for its gluten-, dairy-, and egg-free offerings, is expanding to a new location in Dilworth. This marks the third shop for the business, which first opened in Camp North End in May 2023, followed by an expansion to Plaza Midwood last year.
The new location, set to open in late May, will be at 224 East Blvd., next to Sunflour Bakery and near the upcoming Leluia Hall. The 1,000-square-foot shop, located inside an old house, will feature bar seating, a few tables, and a small outdoor patio that mirrors the setup at Sunflour Bakery. Additionally, a game room with classic arcade games will add to the fun atmosphere. Co-owner Garrett Tichy emphasized the importance of creating an enjoyable experience, not only for kids but for adults as well.
Like its other locations, Seemingly Overzealous will offer 12 homemade ice cream flavors, all gluten-, dairy-, and egg-free, including the fan-favorite “i NEEDED SOMEONE TO FEED” (brown sugar cinnamon) and “CAN’T ALL BE COOKiE” (cookies & cream). The shop’s signature ice cream cones will also adhere to its allergy-friendly approach.
Tichy and his wife, Jessica Berresse, started Seemingly Overzealous during the pandemic, initially making ice cream for friends during lockdown. The business has grown rapidly since then, fueled by the increasing demand for allergy-friendly food in Charlotte.
At a recent pop-up event with gluten-free bakery The Accidental Baker, Tichy noted the strong demand, saying, “We made more during that pop-up before noon than we do on some full-on weekend Saturdays.” The success of such events has encouraged plans for more collaborations once the Dilworth location opens.
As the allergy-friendly food movement gains momentum in the city, Seemingly Overzealous continues to capitalize on this growing demand, offering a fun, inclusive space for all customers to indulge in delicious, allergen-free treats.
