Museum of Ice Cream to Leave Austin, Eyes New Texas Locations

by Alice

The Museum of Ice Cream, known for its bright pink rooms and sweet interactive experiences, will be closing its Austin location at The Domain on July 20, 2025. A museum spokesperson confirmed that the lease was not renewed by the mall, prompting the search for a new Texas home.

The popular attraction opened in Austin in 2021 as a pop-up and remained in place for four years. Now, the company says it is actively exploring new permanent sites in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston.

Famous for its Instagram-friendly exhibits like the sprinkle pool and candy-themed rooms, the museum first debuted as a pop-up in New York City in 2016. It was inspired by Austin’s vibrant mix of food and art, with the idea born at SXSW by co-founder Maryellis Bunn. Since then, the museum has expanded to cities including Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Miami, New York, and even Singapore.
