SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) — A blast from the past is still going strong. The Totally 80s Ice Cream Shoppe, located in downtown Salem, marked its one-year anniversary on Sunday, drawing smiles from nostalgic visitors and newcomers alike.
The shop, steeped in 1980s pop culture, features decor and vibes straight out of the neon-soaked decade, with nods to iconic films like The Goonies and classic arcade games such as Pac-Man. The retro ambiance has become a hit with customers of all ages, offering parents and grandparents a fun way to relive their youth while introducing a new generation to the sights and sounds of the ’80s.
Owner Mike Thrope credits much of the shop’s success and creative evolution to its customers.
“A lot of our customers have been our best creativity, if you will,” Thrope said. “They’ll say, ‘Oh, this would be cool,’ and then all of a sudden, the wheels start turning.”
The enthusiastic response has led to exciting expansion plans. Thrope confirmed that the Totally 80s brand is in the process of opening a second location in Austintown, which is expected to launch in the near future.
With a winning mix of nostalgia and community engagement, Totally 80s Ice Cream Shoppe continues to prove that a love for the past can pave the way for a flavorful future.
