LUDHIANA — A surprise inspection by the District Health Department’s food safety team at an ice cream manufacturing unit in Hambran, Ludhiana, has revealed serious hygiene violations. The factory, located in the Industrial Area, was found to be operating under filthy and unsanitary conditions, raising significant concerns about food safety and consumer health.
During the inspection, the team discovered a cluttered and unclean working environment, with waste materials scattered throughout the facility and inadequate sanitation practices. Such conditions not only breached hygiene standards but also posed a potential risk to public health.
As part of the inspection, two ice cream samples were collected and sent to the state food laboratory for further analysis to assess any contamination. The factory management was immediately issued a challan for severe violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Legal proceedings have now been initiated against the unit.
Amarjit Kaur, the District Health Officer (DHO), emphasized the department’s unwavering commitment to ensuring food safety and public health. “There will be no compromise when it comes to public health,” Kaur stated. “Food establishments operating in unhygienic conditions not only break the law but also endanger the lives of consumers. Our teams are actively conducting checks, and offenders will be dealt with firmly.”
The Health Department has urged all food business operators to adhere to strict hygiene standards and protocols. Failure to do so, Kaur warned, would result in stringent legal actions against the offenders.
