Plymouth, Luzerne County (WBRE/WYOU) – Amidst the pleasant weather, residents of Luzerne County are treating themselves to ice cream for a charitable cause, courtesy of the Plymouth Fire Company No. 1.
Throughout the week, the fire company has been hosting an Ice Cream Rescue truck fundraiser, drawing crowds eager to support the volunteer firefighters while indulging in a sweet treat.
Customers are lining up to show their support for the fire company, with a portion of the proceeds from the fundraiser contributing to various essential expenses. These funds will assist in covering bills for the firehouse, procuring the latest firefighting equipment, and addressing other departmental needs.
Thomas McTague, a representative of Plymouth Fire Company No. 1, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming community support. “The outpouring of support from the community has been unreal. Every night, there’s 20-30 people waiting in line to support us, get some ice cream, and some of the proceeds come to us,” McTague stated.
The Ice Cream Rescue co-owner, Greg Davis, shed light on the initiative’s inception and its growth. “We started it in August of last year just for a test drive. We decided we wanted to build it in June, and we built it in a month. And now we’re trying to figure out the ins and outs of the ice cream world. So, this is our year to start it really, so we test-drove it for a couple of months last year, and this is our opening week,” Davis explained.
As residents enjoy their ice cream treats, they not only savor the flavors but also contribute to the well-being of their local firefighters, exemplifying the spirit of community support and collaboration.
