A new ice cream and coffee shop could soon grace the vicinity of Buckner Park on Bass Road in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Local entrepreneurs Clark Hurley and Ashley Holley have secured the vacant property at 6128 Bass Road, situated adjacent to the park and across from the proposed 32-acre soccer complex. They aim to transform this space into a destination offering hard-dip ice cream and an array of coffee options. Plans for the establishment were recently submitted to the Fort Wayne Plan Commission.
Occupying a 2,100-square-foot building on a .6-acre lot, the shop will breathe new life into a long-vacant structure. While the name of the establishment has yet to be finalized, Holley envisions it as a convenient spot for residents of surrounding neighborhoods to walk or bike to, with the added perk of easy access to the sprawling 200-acre Buckner Park.
Anticipating a varied clientele, the partners plan to open early at around 6 a.m. to cater to coffee enthusiasts and extend their hours into the evening, potentially until 10 p.m., during the summer months to accommodate ice cream cravings. They aspire to feature locally-sourced ice cream and intend to incorporate a drive-thru window into their business model.
With deep roots in the area, particularly Hurley’s lifelong connection to the neighborhood, Holley expressed that when the property became available, they recognized its potential as an ideal location for their venture.
The application is slated for presentation at the June 10 meeting of the Fort Wayne Plan Commission.
