Erie Ice Cream Shops Thrive During Holiday Weekend

by Alice

Local ice cream shops in Erie reported a surge in business over the Memorial Day weekend, marking the unofficial start of summer.

David Stromenger, co-owner of Connie’s Ice Cream and Presque Isle Pizza, noted the significance of summer holidays for their business. “We’re open seven days a week because ice cream season is all summer holidays: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day. These are really busy days for us because people want ice cream on holidays, or every day I should say,” he explained.

Annika Semoe, assistant manager at Whippy Dip 2, shared similar sentiments. “We get to see a lot of people that we don’t normally get to see, as well as a lot of regulars. Normally we close at 9, but we do see people trying to still come in and get ice cream past 9,” she said.

Both shops expressed optimism about the upcoming summer season and look forward to what the rest of the year will bring.
