Local favorite ice cream and coffee purveyor, Sebastian Joe’s, is expanding its footprint with a third location slated to open on Nicollet Avenue in south Minneapolis. The new establishment, named “Sebastian Joe’s Kingfield Social,” pays homage to the vibrant local neighborhood it will serve.
This exciting addition comes as a response to a heartfelt appeal from neighborhood youngsters, who penned a persuasive letter advocating for an ice cream haven in their community. Published by the neighborhood digital news outlet Southwest Voices, their impassioned plea caught the attention of Sebastian Joe’s, ultimately leading to the decision to set up shop in the area.
Although an exact opening date for the new location has yet to be announced, Sebastian Joe’s anticipates scooping up its renowned ice cream, including an exclusive soft-serve flavor, by the second week of June. Unlike its sister establishments in Lowry Hill and Linden Hills, Sebastian Joe’s Kingfield Social will operate seasonally, enriching the neighborhood experience during warmer months.
Patrons can indulge in a delightful array of ice cream flavors, from signature classics like Nicollet Avenue Pothole to tantalizing options such as Oreo and raspberry chocolate chip. In addition to ice cream, the menu will feature coffee, tea, and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
Adding to the excitement, Sebastian Joe’s enthusiasts can customize their experience with a unique offering: a vanilla soft serve complemented by an assortment of mix-ins, including real fruit, cookies, cakes, and candies.
Nic Groth, Managing Partner of Sebastian Joe’s, expressed his enthusiasm for the venture, remarking, “Joe’s Kingfield Social is an intentional effort to swirl tradition and ingenuity into a new flavor scoop shop. It’s a joy to have received such resounding support from the neighborhood’s younger residents for this Kingfield location.”
This expansion marks the first new Sebastian Joe’s establishment in over thirty years. Founded in 1984 by three brothers who opened the original storefront at Franklin Avenue and Hennepin Avenue, the brand has since become a beloved staple of the Minneapolis community.
Operating hours for Sebastian Joe’s Kingfield Social will be Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The seasonal store is expected to remain open at least through Labor Day, according to Groth.
