Port Douglas, Australia – Wicked Ice Cream, a local favorite in Port Douglas, has earned national recognition for its “Coconut Delight” sorbet, winning the coveted “Best Sorbet” award at the prestigious Royal Queensland Awards in Brisbane.
The sorbet, described as “magic” by judges, stood out for its incredibly smooth texture, with no trace of ice crystals, a feat that impressed even the national judge, Russell Smith.
Michelle Middleton, co-owner of Wicked Ice Cream, shared her pride in the win, highlighting the dedication and effort required to transport their products to the competition.
“The transport was the problem because we had to get it all the way down by truck to Brisbane,” Michelle explained. “So it was a pretty big feat.”
Wicked Ice Cream took home a total of 18 awards, including silver and bronze medals for other flavors like their “Creamy Gourmet Banana” which won Champion Flavored Ice Cream or Gelato of Show.
Their success in Brisbane is particularly sweet after facing transport challenges in previous years. The couple now sets their sights on conquering the even larger stage in Sydney, where they’ll face tough competition from international ice cream makers, including those from Italy.
Michelle and David Middleton expressed gratitude to their customers for their ongoing support. “Thanks to everyone. We are happy to showcase our little shop in Port Douglas to Australia,” she said.
