The Duke of Westminster, Hugh Grosvenor, and his fiancée, Olivia Henson, will celebrate their wedding with a special treat for the public: free ice cream and sorbet in Chester city centre on Friday.
The couple, who will marry at Chester Cathedral, have arranged for three local businesses to participate in the giveaway from 10:00 BST. Visitors can enjoy complimentary ice cream from Cheshire Farm Ice Cream in Chester Market, Diddy Donuts under the Eastgate Clock, and Krum Gelato on Watergate Street.
Craig Fermor, owner of Diddy Donuts, expressed his excitement about the event, saying he was “delighted, flattered, and proud” to be included. Fabrizio Gobbato, co-owner of Krum Gelato, revealed that the shop will offer a bespoke lemon sorbet flavor inspired by the couple’s wedding cake. Ed Warrington of Cheshire Farm Ice Cream also shared his enthusiasm, stating the business was “delighted” to join in the celebration.
This gesture follows the couple’s funding of the annual Summer Flowers project, which planted 100,000 flowers across the city.
Some roads, including Northgate Street, St Werburgh Street, Eastgate Street, and St John Street, will be closed ahead of the ceremony, which is set to begin at 12:00.
