Millcreek Township residents Laurie and Jim Smialek, known for their Smiley’s Ice Cream Trucks, are expanding their venture to include a brick-and-mortar establishment. The couple, who currently make weekly trips to Pennsylvania State University’s Berkey Creamery for supplies, plan to open their new location at the former GetGo service station at the bustling intersection of Water Street and Buffalo Road in Wesleyville.
Scheduled for an anticipated opening on July 1st, the Smialeks have secured a lease for the vacant building, aiming to offer their signature ice cream delights alongside sundae treats, milkshakes, floats, and cotton candy. Laurie, a former school cafeteria manager, expressed enthusiasm for the move, citing the need for more space beyond the confines of their trucks. The strategic location, coupled with proximity to Wabtec Corp., adds to the appeal of their expansion.
Reflecting on their journey since launching the business in 2018, Laurie shared their joy in bringing nostalgia and delight to customers through their mobile ice cream service. The upcoming permanent location, echoing the seasonal operation of their trucks, is poised to spread smiles from April through October.
