Riverside welcomes the arrival of Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream just in time for the summer heat wave.
Originating from the Midwest and founded in 1945 in Youngstown, Ohio, Handel’s is renowned for its extensive selection of ice creams, sherbets, and sorbets, offering approximately 48 flavors each month from a rotating list of 150 options.
Local franchisees Aman and Gagan Batta unveiled their shop on Thursday, June 6, nestled in the Canyon Crest Towne Centre. The official grand opening celebration is slated for June 15, featuring enticing offers such as free ice cream for a year for the first 100 customers, alongside giveaways, face painting, and a DJ performance.
Occupying the former space of Canyon Crest Winery, adjacent to Rite Aid, Handel’s accommodates customers through convenient walk-up windows. Inside, the ambiance has been transformed into a spacious kitchen with rows of waist-high freezers housing freshly scooped ice cream, crafted daily on-site in five-gallon batches.
Prices for ice cream range from $5.75 to $9 for cones, dishes, and bowls, with hand-packed pints and quarts available for $8.75 to $13.25. Additionally, the menu features an array of delectable treats such as sundaes, shakes, banana splits, and chocolate-covered bananas, with the current flavor of the month being carrot cake.
Operating hours are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, ensuring Riverside residents can indulge in Handel’s delights at their convenience.
This marks Riverside County’s second Handel’s outpost, following the successful debut in Temecula in February. Plans for a third location in Eastvale are also in progress.
