Perry’s Ice Cream has successfully concluded its ambitious expansion project, enhancing production capabilities at its facilities in the Village of Akron, announced Empire State Development officials on Thursday.
The culmination of this endeavor sees the addition of a new 20,000-square-foot building, strategically positioned adjacent to the existing manufacturing hub. Alongside this structural expansion, Perry’s has invested in cutting-edge machinery and equipment to bolster its production capabilities.
Robert Denning, President & CEO of Perry’s Ice Cream, expressed gratitude for the support from Empire State Development, underscoring the significance of this investment in propelling Perry’s into a new era of growth and innovation. Denning emphasized the importance of adapting to evolving consumer demands, ensuring the company remains at the forefront of delivering innovative and enticing products.
The newly installed manufacturing line is poised to revolutionize Perry’s offerings, facilitating the production of conventional ice cream-based options, alongside sorbet, yogurt, non-dairy varieties, and more. This $18 million project encompasses not only the construction of a dedicated facility to house state-of-the-art equipment but also renovations to existing infrastructure, including upgrades to the site’s engine room and pump room, further enhancing operational efficiency.
Empire State Development President, CEO, and Commissioner Hope Knight commended Perry’s Ice Cream for its commitment to growth and job creation, highlighting the expansion’s broader impact on the regional economy. Knight underscored the significance of supporting local dairy farmers integral to Perry’s supply chain, reinforcing the company’s role as a key contributor to the economic vitality of the region.
As part of the expansion project, Perry’s will create 15 new jobs, in addition to retaining a total of 370 existing positions, further solidifying its commitment to the local community and workforce.
