The Department of Food Safety has seized ice cream packs from a leading manufacturer for failing to print the percentage of ingredients on the label. Sellers have been ordered to halt sales until the issue is rectified.
During an inspection on Pasuvanthanai Road, officials discovered that a milk product manufacturing unit, operating under a lease, was selling its products through another trader who held the food safety license. The ice cream labels were found to be missing the percentage of ingredients, which is considered misleading to consumers. Consequently, 386 ice cream packs were seized and retained by the seller for further investigation.
The shop’s food safety license has been suspended, and the manufacturer has been instructed to withdraw all ice cream packs from outlets across Thoothukudi district, according to an official statement.
