YPSILANTI, MI – Candy Coated Creamery, a vibrant new addition to Ypsilanti’s culinary scene, has quickly become a local favorite with its array of loaded shakes and sweet treats.
Located at 1076 N. Huron River Drive, the shop has already garnered positive feedback since its soft opening over Memorial Day weekend. Owner Seun Awosika, alongside his nephew Justin Awosika and girlfriend Keniya Chambers-Reid, manages the shop, which boasts vibrant blue walls and a tempting selection of ice cream flavors.
“We’ve received overwhelming support from the community. People have expressed their gratitude for having an ice cream shop like this in Ypsilanti,” said Seun Awosika.
Candy Coated Creamery offers a rotating selection of 20 flavors sourced from Ashby’s Ice Cream and Guernsey Farms Dairy, including vegan options. Customer favorites such as lemon cheesecake and banana pudding are served in cones, bowls, and even transformed into ice-cream nachos using waffle cone chips.
The star attractions, however, are the specialty milkshakes priced at $12 each. Choices like Oreo Overload and Strawberry Crunch are crafted with attention to detail, featuring decadent toppings such as Oreo crumbles, fresh strawberries, and even ice cream bars. These shakes have quickly become a hit among patrons.
Seun emphasizes quality and customer satisfaction, aiming to perfect existing offerings before introducing new flavors. Beyond ice cream, Candy Coated Creamery also offers cupcakes, popcorn, and mini cheesecakes from local suppliers, enriching its dessert menu.
The journey to opening the creamery was deeply personal for Seun, who transitioned from running a hair salon at the same location to pursuing his ice cream dream. Inspired during challenging times spent with his daughter, who recently overcame brain cancer, Seun’s vision for Candy Coated Creamery is a testament to resilience and community support.
