GORDON, Wisconsin — As the first day of summer dawned, residents and travelers along Highway 53 were treated to a delightful surprise: the grand opening of Gordon Station, a historic landmark reborn as an ice cream haven.
Julie Phelps, the proud owner of Gordon Station, expressed her enthusiasm for the anticipated influx of tourists this summer. “It was overwhelming to see the steady stream of visitors when we opened the doors,” Phelps remarked. “I’m thrilled to have restored this entire building, ensuring that it continues to bring joy to the town for years to come.”
Originally established as a gas station in the 1930s, Gordon Station stands as the last remaining prefabricated structure of its kind in the area. The extensive renovations, spanning several months, culminated in a carefully crafted space that now delights patrons with its sweet offerings.
“We relocated the building on November 9th and spent the following months meticulously installing windows, doors, and securing the structure for winter,” Phelps explained. “Our goal was to open by June 15th, and although we achieved it a few days later on the 20th, I’m immensely pleased with the outcome.”
Gordon Station not only promises a nostalgic glimpse into local history but also serves as a beacon of community pride and revitalization in Gordon.
