Restaurant owner Tony Prifitera has opened a new sweets shop featuring two of his favorite treats—ice cream and cookies—crafted in unique ways.
The shop, Nitro Cream n Crumbz, offers nitro-infused ice cream made to order right in front of customers. The cookies are made from special Prifitera family recipes, baked in small batches and served fresh from the oven.
“It’s more than just an ice cream and cookie shop. It’s more of an experience,” Prifitera explained. “Where else can you see ice cream being made right before your eyes?”
Prifitera plans to expand this experience nationwide, but for now, the first location is at 422 Main St. in Middletown, a bustling area known for its restaurants and bars. Prifitera, who also owns Sicily Coal Fired Pizza nearby, runs the business with his wife Maria and their four children: Sabrina, 28, Gabriella, 22, Nico, 17, and Joe, 26.
Prifitera praised Middletown’s Main Street for its vibrant business community and welcoming atmosphere, noting, “Officers are walking the beat like they did years ago.”
The nitro-infused ice cream method, which has gained popularity recently, speeds up the traditional hours-long freezing process. Raw ingredients, including milk, cream, sugar, and any desired toppings, are mixed and quickly frozen with liquid nitrogen at -325 degrees Fahrenheit. Customers can watch this process unfold in open blenders.
“I have a passion for making ice cream,” Prifitera said.
The shop offers nine types of cookies, made and baked in front of customers for a truly immersive experience.
