The recall affects all flavors of Abilyn’s ice cream cakes with Best By dates ranging from April 20, 2024, to April 20, 2025. The issue was identified on June 21, 2024, when the company’s production partner informed them that recent FDA testing detected possible contamination on the production line used for these cakes.
Listeria monocytogenes, the bacteria in question, can cause serious and sometimes life-threatening infections despite contaminated food appearing normal. Consumers who have purchased and consumed the recalled cakes should seek medical attention if they experience symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, or neck stiffness.

Those most at risk include pregnant women, the elderly, young children, and individuals with weakened immune systems, such as cancer patients. In pregnant women, even mild flu-like symptoms can lead to severe outcomes like premature delivery, newborn infection, or stillbirth.
