BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – Olive the dog is a lover of ride-alongs, children, and pup cups. This English Cream Retriever has become the charming inspiration for a local ice cream truck, aptly named Olive’s Ice Cream Truck.
“We were brainstorming names for our ice cream truck, and Claire came up with ‘Olive’s Ice Cream Truck.’ Given Olive’s cream-colored fur and her cuteness, the name stuck,” explained Shelby Imdieke, the owner of the truck.
Shelby, her daughter Clare, and Olive are on a mission to bring smiles and laughter to the children of Bismarck, while also reigniting a sense of nostalgia for adults with the familiar tune of the ice cream truck. Together, they drive through neighborhoods, offering cool treats to beat the summer heat.
“They’re kind of like ants. We drive up to a neighborhood, play our music, park at the end of the street, and suddenly, kids come running out, screaming and holding their money, eager to buy an ice cream,” said Shelby.
While Olive doesn’t accompany every trip, her presence leaves a lasting impression when she does, almost as if she understands the truck is named after her.
For those looking to catch Olive’s Ice Cream Truck, the schedule is available on their website. You can also follow the truck’s route in real-time using the Glympse app, or simply listen for that iconic ice cream truck tune.
