As autumn approaches and apple cider donuts and pies become seasonal staples, Salt & Straw is introducing a new ice cream series to celebrate the fall season. Known for its innovative and seasonal flavors, Salt & Straw is launching a collection that highlights the versatile apple in five distinct flavors. Starting Friday, August 30, this Apple Series will be available nationwide, featuring four new flavors and one returning favorite.
In a recent press release, Salt & Straw described the fall menu as a “nostalgic nod” to the brand’s origins, recalling its early days when it started as a pushcart at Portland, Oregon fall festivals. This season’s lineup includes collaborations with artisan partners such as Sidecar Doughnuts and Finnriver Farm & Cidery. Notably, the series will also debut a limited-time seasonal waffle cone flavor, marking a first for the ice cream shop. However, fans should act quickly, as these apple-themed flavors will be available only until the end of September.
The first flavor in the Apple Series is a returning classic: Caramel Apple Sherbet. This flavor, created in collaboration with Treetop, a cooperative apple farm, features fresh apple sherbet swirled with vanilla-caramel ribbons, delivering a traditional fall taste.
New to the lineup is a unique blend of two autumn favorites: Apple Pie and Pumpkin Pie. This flavor combines granny smith apples and shortbread cookie crust in vanilla custard with a pumpkin pie component mixed with brown sugar ice cream. Another collaboration with Sidecar Doughnuts results in the Apple Cider Donuts flavor, which combines royal icing ice cream with cinnamon-vanilla caramel stripes and sugar-and-spice streusel chunks.
The final two flavors are the most unconventional. The Finnriver Farm & Cidery collaboration introduces Black Currant Apple Cider. This flavor incorporates Finnriver’s limited-release Autumn Blush hard cider, which is transformed into a pâte de fruits candy and an apple-and-black-currant sherbet. The other unique offering is Green Apple Wasabi Sorbet, featuring Oregon Coast Wasabi. This sorbet combines green apple juice with wasabi for a subtle kick and is mixed with red and golden delicious apples.
Additionally, the seasonal waffle cone will be flavored with pumpkin spice. Using a special pumpkin pie spice blend from Diaspora Co., this waffle cone will be available starting September 6, a few days after the rest of the fall menu.
With these new flavors, Salt & Straw continues to push the boundaries of seasonal ice cream offerings, blending traditional tastes with inventive twists to capture the essence of fall.
