On Sunday, August 25, American Legion Post 305 hosted its annual Ice Cream Supper, drawing strong community support. The event, held in the evening, was a testament to the post’s enduring connection with the local area.
Bill Viebrock, a member of the Sons of the American Legion, prepared hot dogs near the entrance. The tempting aroma of the grilled hot dogs quickly drew guests, keeping Viebrock busy as he worked to meet the high demand.
Inside, volunteers served hot dogs and continually restocked dessert slices to accompany the generous scoops of ice cream. Fred Kennedy provided musical entertainment, playing classic country and gospel tunes like “I’ll Fly Away” on his guitar. The lively music, combined with the bustling atmosphere, created a warm and enjoyable Sunday evening for everyone in attendance.
American Legion Post 305, established in 1920 by World War I veterans, is celebrating 104 years of service in 2024. Initially, the post operated without a dedicated building, but over the years, through the dedication of its members and community support, it has grown into a significant local institution.
The Legion is known for its community service, particularly its Memorial Day ceremonies at local cemeteries to honor fallen soldiers. This tradition highlights the post’s ongoing commitment to respecting and commemorating the service of veterans. The community holds a deep sense of pride for the Legion and its members, both past and present.
