Sherman’s Dairy Bar, a beloved South Haven institution, has announced it will close after 66 seasons of serving ice cream. The closure will take effect on October 26.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, marking the end of an era for the popular summer destination. “We have cherished being part of your summer traditions for 66 seasons, and we know many of you have fond memories of a scoop at Sherman’s,” the establishment shared in a statement.
The news has elicited a wave of nostalgic reactions from its loyal customers on social media. Mary reminisced about the shop’s early days, recalling how she and her siblings would bike to Sherman’s when it was surrounded by fields and farms. “I still take my family often even though I don’t live in South Haven anymore. I have such wonderful memories of Sherman’s Dairy!” she wrote.
Kent described Sherman’s as the “gold standard” of ice cream, highlighting how his family saved coins throughout the year for their visits. “Sherman’s will be missed!” he said.
Founded in 1916, Sherman’s Dairy Bar began as a dairy and milk delivery service before evolving into an ice cream business that has been a staple in the community for decades.
