A surprising partnership has emerged with the launch of a new limited-edition ice cream that blends the distinct worlds of Baskin-Robbins and Godiva.
Baskin-Robbins, known for its affordable ice creams and cakes, and Godiva, renowned for its luxury chocolates priced at a premium, seem like unlikely collaborators. However, their different market positions provide a unique foundation for this new venture. The collaboration, described as a “forbidden partnership,” has resulted in the creation of a highly anticipated ice cream that is already generating buzz.
According to Baskin-Robbins Japan, also known as “31,” this collaboration has been in development for some time. Extensive testing and refinement have led to the creation of a new Chocolat Hazelnut ice cream, overseen by Godiva’s executive chocolatier, Yannick Chevolleau.
The “31 Chocolaterie” series, which launched on September 4, features a range of offerings including a cup, cone, tub, and an ice cream cake, all showcasing the new Chocolat Hazelnut flavor.
On the release day, our reporter P.K. Sanjun sampled the Premium Chocolat Sundae, which includes two scoops of the new ice cream, whipped cream, and an assortment of Godiva chocolate treats: a crunchy chocolate cookie, bitter high-cacao chocolate pieces, aromatic fried cacao nibs, a chocolate piece adorned with the collaboration logo, and a rich chocolate sauce.
Eager to evaluate the new ice cream, P.K. tasted it first, noting the impressive swirls of chocolate and hazelnut flavors. The high-quality chocolate delivered a rich, bitter cacao profile rarely found in Baskin-Robbins offerings, while the hazelnut ice cream added a sweet counterbalance.
This fusion of chocolate and hazelnut, along with the brands’ unexpected collaboration, proves to be a remarkable combination. P.K. predicts that the product will quickly sell out due to its limited availability.
For enthusiasts of chocolate, ice cream, or both, a visit to Baskin-Robbins is advisable before this exclusive collaboration runs out. Additionally, those looking to explore more options might find worthwhile choices for under 1,000 yen.
