ELYRIA, OH – Scoops & More Ice Cream, located at 528 W. River Road North, is testing a new approach this winter by remaining open throughout the off-season. For the first time, the popular seasonal ice cream stand will operate during the colder months, featuring a limited menu that includes rotating seasonal items.
Owner Alexis Susak cited customer demand as the main motivation behind the decision. “Every year when we close, they always talk about how they can’t wait for us to open back up,” Susak said.
While the menu will be reduced, Susak assured that the offerings will include seasonal ice cream flavors and food items that will change periodically. The stand is also rolling out several operational upgrades. A new messaging system will allow for better communication with customers, while an online ordering platform aims to reduce wait times, especially during inclement weather.
“We’ve already rolled out our fall menu, which includes new flavors exclusive to the season,” Susak explained. “Although we’ve cut down on the number of flavors, there are still plenty of exciting options to try.”
Operating hours will vary during this transition, with staff monitoring peak times to adjust the schedule accordingly. The move also benefits the stand’s high school-aged staff, many of whom are looking for off-season employment opportunities.
“It’s about supporting our employees and doing what we can for the customers,” Susak added. “Our loyal customers are really excited about this change, and we’re thrilled to be able to offer something new.”
Susak, who took over the family business from her grandparents Janice and James Susak, shared that her grandparents were also in favor of extending the stand’s season.
“The community’s support has been incredible,” she said. “It’s amazing to see how many people are excited to see these changes. We have such a loyal customer base, and that makes all the difference.”
