A beloved Toronto ice cream shop catering to customers with dietary restrictions is set to close its doors permanently, but fans may still enjoy its treats in a new form.
Located in Moss Park, Creamery X has been a neighborhood favorite since opening during the pandemic, delighting customers with a variety of custard-based ice cream flavors and unique cones. While the shop offers an array of dairy options, it is the extensive selection of vegan and gluten-free ice creams that has truly distinguished it from others in the city.
In a recent Instagram announcement, owners Melissa and Bonnie revealed that Creamery X will cease operations in its current form on October 28. “After four incredible years, it’s bittersweet to announce that Creamery X has been sold,” they stated in the post.
Although the current brand will soon vanish, the new owners plan to rebrand the establishment as Pink Elephant Creamery. They confirmed that while Pink Elephant will keep Creamery X’s recipes, the new management has the discretion to modify or discontinue them. “There’s a chance the new concept will continue to offer the much-loved concoctions Creamery X was known for, but there’s no guarantee,” Bonnie and Melissa noted.
The new owner, Urvin, is a graduate of Carpigiani Gelato University and brings a wealth of experience, having previously owned and operated several ice cream and gelato franchises. Fans can be reassured that the shop remains in capable hands.
In addition to the existing ice cream offerings, the Pink Elephant Creamery may introduce new products, including breakfast items and baked goods. “Keep an eye out!” the former owners encouraged their loyal customers.
Creamery X is located at 114 Queen East.
