TUCSON, AZ – Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream, a beloved ice cream shop established in 1945, is set to launch its first location in Tucson at 7315 N. Oracle Rd. The Grand Opening celebration will take place on Thursday, October 24, starting at 11 a.m., featuring face painting, giveaways, and other family-friendly activities.
Following the grand opening, Handel’s will welcome customers daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The new shop joins a renovated building near the intersection of Oracle and Ina roads, alongside popular eateries Snooze and Cold Beers and Cheeseburgers.
Originating in Youngstown, Ohio, Handel’s has expanded to over 140 locations across 14 states. The shop has garnered accolades, including recognition from National Geographic as the best “Ice Cream on the Planet” and inclusion in Newsweek’s ‘Best of the Best 2024’ list.
Local franchisees Michelle and Dave Knittel are behind the Tucson opening. Their introduction to Handel’s came nearly a decade ago during a visit to a San Diego location.
The menu boasts a range of flavors, including Banana Cream Pie, Birthday Cake, Black Cherry, and Chocoholic Peanut Butter Ripple. Some classic recipes, such as Strawberry, have remained unchanged since the shop’s inception. For those seeking dairy-free options, Handel’s offers a selection of sherberts, ices, and vegan sorbets, with flavors like Chocolate Almond Milk and Coconut Milk.
Customers can enjoy a variety of treats, including cones, pints, sundaes, shakes, and the signature Hurricane—a milkshake blended with candy and chocolate reminiscent of Dairy Queen’s Blizzard.
